How To Make Money Online In Germany (9 Best Ways)

The concept of work from home or remote work was nearly unimaginable even a decade back and many couldn’t imagine doing online jobs in Germany. Now it is considered the new normal, especially since the lockdown due to the global pandemic.
The internet has opened up new vistas and working online means no more long commutes followed by longer working hours. I have decided to start the UK Education Blog in 2018 as a side hustle while working full-time as a teacher. It has enabled me to now work as a blogger and online media strategist for ClickDo Ltd. full-time while living a digital nomad lifestyle. And yes, I love it! Read all about my first digitally inspired summer in 2018.

You could start a profitable career from your kitchen table, work when you want, enjoy your free time, and make an impact. You could potentially become a digital nomad or digital entrepreneur even. It is easier than ever as long as you have gained some digital skills like SEO, digital marketing or simply how to use Microsoft Office and a web browser.
You can learn such easily with thousands of YouTube tutorials or the SeekaHost University where I teach a course about SEO copywriting. I will also soon release my first German course where I cover everything you need to know about WordPress Blogging.

What is the Best Online Job in Germany?

I have been working online from home as a copywriter and blogger for a few years now. I have written many guides about earning money online as you can see in this article.

48 Home Business Ideas Guide

And because I am German, I have compiled some research about the German online job and work market, so that you can see how easy it is to earn money online in Germany. Let me guide you through your options to inspire you if you live or intend to live in Germany, a country full of many online job opportunities.

Best Work From Home & Online Jobs in Germany

1. TranslatorForeign languages translation concept, online translator

This is the perfect job if you are well versed in English and German or any other languages in combination with German. Translation has become a vital task as global trade has grown. Almost all business documents, deeds, affidavits, memorandums need translation into English for circulation among international clients. It helps if you have a diploma or degree in the English language or target language, but it is not mandatory. Of course, without certification, you would need to prove your grasp of English or the target language for translation in the first few bottom dollar projects. If your work is good enough, then with experience, a great case study portfolio, and positive client reviews, the need for certification fades. Some online job websites and search engines also give you the option to show your skills through tests they provide. This can increase trustworthiness.

Of utmost importance is understanding that a translator translates not only words but also the spirit of the content and message a company or client wants to convey. Your web content, for example, must be more than the sum of the different content parts and reflect the sentiment of the original, but with a matching cultural angle. German translation services accommodate various sectors, such as law, health care, and finance, which you will need to research more on if you want to specialize in your translation skills. The mentioned industries above will require you to undergo training that’s tailored to the field you will specialize in before you can apply as a certified or sworn German translator to start a career in these industries. With over 130 million language speakers and about six countries considering German as their official language, you rest assured knowing that as a translator, there will always be a demand for your services. You can listen to the interview I conducted with my close friend Alexandra Bekavac, who is a sworn translator in Germany, to understand more about her journey and how she earns a living from translating:

Let me tell you that British and German humour is very different so if a client website were telling a joke or a funny slogan, your job would be to make it sound funny in both languages. When I helped translate contents and documents for a Swiss-German educational website called Bambino Learncare into English, it was challenging due to the differences in the national and regional public and political systems influencing education. So, translating from German means you don’t just speak for Germans, but also Austrians or Swiss in some cases, which is exciting and may open up many more online work opportunities.

2. BloggerBlogger - Work From Home Jobs

Creating your own domain and blog is exceptionally satisfying and can pay committed bloggers handsomely. The first step is to learn how to start a blog, just like I did through WordPress and I explain how you can get started in just a day with the new Blog Hosting Control Panel the SeekaHost App offers:

How To Start A Blog In 2022 And Make Money Blogging (5 Step Guide)

If you have a passion for something, share it with the world and get paid when others visit your blog. If you want to learn more about how to monetise a blog then read my extensive blogging monetization guide here:

20 Ways on How to Make Money Blogging for Beginners

Of course, it goes without saying that your blog posts must attract many readers to be engaging, easy to read, relatable, and show that you have adequate domain knowledge. You’ll also need to have some professional SEO and Blogging skills to get it ranked high on search engines so that people find it. You can take SeekaHost University online courses to get on top of that and I have been using the best WordPress Hosting UK to achieve fast loading speeds and control panel that allows me to track and analyse my websites stats here with this blog, which now attracts over 1000 visitors monthly. Check my analysis out here:

Once you have built your blog successfully, which can take months including customizing it (tip: find many useful WordPress tutorials on the SeekaHost Blog with tips on the best WP themes and more to speed up the process), it is time to promote it through SEO, social media marketing und guest posting. This will ensure you attract enough readers so that your blog can be monetized in several ways. Affiliate marketing, selling ad space, e-courses, eBooks and many more avenues make this a lucrative field, which I explain in more depth in the Make Money Online ClickDo guide.

Alexandra Lapp and Leonie Hanne are two well-known German Bloggers who have turned fashion blogging into a multimillion-dollar enterprise, and you can also find out how the top 100 UK bloggers and influencers like Joe Wicks earn money with their blogs and social media channels. You will discover that blogging offers multiple avenues as many are also successful vloggers on YouTube and earn an income through various online sources.

3. Data EntryData Entry - Work From Home Jobs

The task itself is quite simple. You are required to input a large number of data into a prescribed format, usually from excel to a database website. There are two caveats:

  • You need enormous speed, at least 60 WPM (words per minute) though 90 is preferable.
  • Accuracy has to be 97.5% at 22500 keystrokes per hour.

The best way to prepare is to learn to type using any of the dozens of free typing software available online. Also, learn to use an ergonomic keyboard for better quality work. Otherwise, you would burn out in a year. This field also has a considerable number of fly-by-night operators who do not pay. Cater to a small and dependable clientele who regularly provide you with work. I provide more tips on highly rated online job sites in the Make Money Online Kindle Book, where I mainly cover international job sites many Germans also use such as Fiverr, Upwork and more.

4. Online SurveysOnline Surveys - Work From Home Jobs

It is the most straightforward work from home jobs and also pays the least. Opinion polls and surveys help companies better understand the customer’s needs. The questions might be about buyer psychology (e.g., your feelings when purchasing/unboxing), taste (colour, material), or financial (what is too expensive/affordable) in nature. The information is rarely personally identifiable but rather an insight into a typical person’s mind from a marketer’s perspective. Several platforms offer surveys, and there is very little labour involved in filling up questionnaires. This is the best side gig to a full-time work from the home job such as a virtual assistant as it can be done in an hour while you earn either rewards or some extra cash.

5. Content Writer/CopywriterContent writer - Work From Home Jobs

It is a writing job similar to a blogger. But apart from that, they share very little in common. As a copywriter you are not going to write about your passion but what your client wants and needs. It could be a sales letter, a website’s About Us page, a blog post with specific keywords inserted brilliantly into the text, and a myriad of the more similar tasks, which I describe in more detail in my portfolio section and my blog posts here about content writing jobs and business ideas. What is needed is a good grasp of language, extensive vocabulary, ability to research quickly, formulate thoughts, and pen them down in simple, lucid sentences that appeal to a reader. Besides, you would need innate curiosity because the topics you may write about could be as varied as travel to Serengeti to the best ten DSLR cameras under Euro 1000. 6. SEOSEO - Work From Home Jobs

SEO means search engine optimization. It is how a website climbs up the search engine page ranking algorithm. Several distinct tasks are performed by the SEO industry. Some of these include keywords analytics, traffic measurement, backlink monitoring, etc. No formal training is required, but an SEO certification or even a free MOOC course would help you understand the industry better. You obviously cannot handle the whole SEO process at first, and it is best to start off as an assistant who works from home. The sky is literally the limit for earning as your skills improve. SEO is a vital skill for many online jobs and if you want to be successful online in Germany, you will have to learn important keywords and how to implement them in your texts so that it attracts the right audience. This is why at SeekaHost University I and my ClickDo colleagues share their SEO skills and wisdom, which can be applied in any language with the right SEO tools. Fernando Raymond, the #1 SEO consultant at ClickDo, who is also a course instructor at SeekaHost University, shares many SEO tips on his blog. And you should read his latest guide about PBN SEO to understand the promising SEO strategies he uses to rank hundreds of websites.

7. Virtual AssistantVirtual Assistant - Work From Home Jobs

Virtual assistants offer online administrative support to firms worldwide. With so many start-ups, there is a need for someone to maintain their books of accounts, prepare payroll, attend to the nitty-gritty of running an office. A virtual assistant works full-time for a company or part-time for several and assists with the management of all office tasks. From writing emails to drafting circulars and proofreading press releases – it is all in a day’s work for a virtual assistant and you can advertise your services in German or English via freelance platforms like Fiverr, Upwork or job sites like Indeed.

8. Social Media AnalystSocial Media Analyst - Work From Home Jobs

If you cannot stay away from Instagram or Facebook, this is the perfect job for you. A significant part of marketing has moved online and into social media. There is a constant need to monitor the publishing calendar and find the perfect platform that offers high ROI for the marketing investment. It requires a degree of comfort with figures and statistics and the ability to objectively analyse and prepare a report based on which the company can tweak its marketing strategy. You will be required to understand how to run paid ads on social media channels and how to gain more likes and shares for any social media campaign you manage.

9. Video Gamer

Online gaming is another big money generator and in Germany video games like Minecraft attract a huge following on YouTube for example. For Minecraft fanatics there are many ways to cash in on their gaming passion and skill. If you want to start earning through online gaming, you need to have a Minecraft game server first. You need to invest time, skill and effort to maintain and build the server, a unique Minecraft world and a dedicated community for other Minecraft players. Beginners can buy a Minecraft server from a reliable hosting provider like SeekaHost and they can read more about how to get started with the SeekaHost Minecraft Server Guide. Try these money-generating avenues once your Minecraft server is up and running:earn-money-with-Minecraft-gaming-and-running-a-game-server-for-players

  • Earn by streaming your Minecraft gaming experience: Build a YouTube channel and add a variety of content related to your gaming like expert tips, behind the scenes, etc. You can earn a decent income through the YouTube monetization scheme which is covered in more detail in the above mentioned ClickDo Make Money Online Guide .
  • Charge players for using your server: Once you advertise your server and attract people to it, you can begin to charge players for the use of your server. You can charge a decent amount for an awesome world with great visual impact, expansions, mods and more. If users like your Minecraft world, you can charge membership fees, where you could offer different packages depending on the play duration, features etc.
  • Create a “task-based” virtual currency program for players: Set up your Minecraft server so that players use a virtual currency to play games. You can allocate a specific amount of virtual currency based on the tasks they complete. These tasks could be linked to your business affiliate schemes and advertising arrangements, encouraging players to download their products such as applications. You could also get your players to watch your advertiser’s latest ads or subscribing to their email lists for example.

There are more advanced ways to earn with Minecraft, which you can find out about in the SeekaHost Make Money With Minecraft Guide.

Final Thoughts…

The advantage of work from home jobs is that you could try out a few to find which suit your personality and needs most. If you want to be a blogger (and perhaps run a YouTube channel as well) you need full-time commitment. Jobs such as data entry and online surveys require less upfront commitment of time, energy, and creativity, but also pay less in the long run. One thing is for sure – that the trend is here to stay.

By getting in early and establishing yourself in the field, you surely have an unbeatable advantage in the German and international online job market. I also highly recommend starting a blog, which you can either use as a professional online presence and portfolio as I do here, or to share your passion, expertise and knowledge in your industry, as I do with some of these blogs:

1. eBooks Publishing

WordPress Seiten Überblick im Dashboard

Are you a book worm? Or do you simply just enjoy creating something that people can read, colour in, or use to tickle their brains? Then designing, authoring, and publishing eBooks is a great way to make some extra money.

You could create a guide about any topic such as nutrition, beauty, or business as anything goes. With at least 100,000 self-published books on Kindle alone and numbers constantly rising, this is becoming a lucrative option for many.

Self-publishing is not difficult these days and once you get the hang of it, you can also offer it as a service to earn extra cash.

Choose a type of book first of all to understand the format of the book. A novel is completely different from a travel guide. The book topic then follows, and you should do a bit of research beforehand about what people are interested in or want to know about your topic.

💰 It is difficult to say how much money you can make with eBook publications as this can greatly vary, but some Amazon Kindle authors make thousands to millions with their eBooks that they produce, publish and market. You can learn more about eBook publication and marketing here.

2. Graphic Designing

Graphic Designing

Graphic designers are high in demand by businesses, organisations and even private people looking for business cards, logos, brochures, or websites, blogs, social media posts and the likes to be designed professionally.

As a graphic designer you can also support book publishers, with book illustrations and designs or marketers and agencies with designing marketing materials.

You can easily get your first gigs from online job platforms like Upwork or PeoplePerHour.

You should begin to build a website or WordPress Blog so that prospective clients can gather as much about your experience and skills as possible online. To market yourself more effectively your own website can help you approach prospective clients via email or social media marketing. A website certainly offers many benefits to showcase your work by displaying case studies, client reviews and much more. After you’ve set up your own website, you can also run Google Ads or Facebook Ads to target certain groups more effectively.

💰 Graphic designers hired in the UK get paid per hour or based on the project at hand. Usually, their hourly rates range from £11-£25*.

3. Scriptwriting

Are you a Hollywood fan writing your own movie scripts? Or do you stream Netflix all day? The media and TV industries are always on the lookout for creative scriptwriters with fresh and trending TV show formats or film narratives.

Even music videos or YouTube channel productions require written scripts these days so, if you have a passion for drama, literature, and storytelling, you can start to promote your services online.

However, this is a tough business to get your foot into the door and networking is key. Build your online presence with a simple online portfolio and share your case studies via social media to gain more attention. As a scriptwriter, you must be prepared to give up the copyrights to all scripts you’ve been paid for; you can’t use the same content for different clients.

If you’re new to this industry you can take free screenwriting courses to get started without any investment.

💰 Financially you might struggle in the beginning only earning £18,000* a year, but once you’ve made it you can take home up to £80,000* p.a. or more in the UK.

4. Videographing

If you’re into filming short clips, screen recording your online activities or creating promotional or tutorial videos you can get into videography or video editing for companies and freelancers. Most clients will want to see past experience with video production or editing, so you could begin by filming smaller events or videos to build up your portfolio and hone your skills, which include computer literacy, animation, creativity & imagination, use of different cameras and familiarity with graphic and editing software.

The video editing can be done in the comfort of your home, but you will need good equipment, which you can rent to start with to keep your cost according to your budget. Use a high-quality video camera and microphone and lighting equipment.

As a video editor you can make use of freelance websites to get gigs and promote your own website.

💰 You can earn anything from $38,520 (£18,000) a year to $115,960 (£36,000+)* a year with videography work

5. Music Teaching

Music Teaching

If you’re a talented musician or simply enjoy playing a music instrument, you can teach students how to play it, sing vocals, compose, and write songs, etc. You can make money from home offering music lessons online. You can create a YouTube channel and post your video lessons. Link it to your tutor website so that anyone looking to learn can find and contact you directly.

Additionally, you can advertise your services or get hired on music tutor platforms. Different platforms offer different tutoring rates so ensure you compare them first.

💰 You can earn an annual income of £19,000 to £42,000* in the UK depending on hourly rates, qualifications and expertise.

6. Social Media Consulting

Social Media Consulting

Having a social media presence is almost as important as having a mobile number these days. However, to manage multiple social media accounts can be extremely time-consuming and once are more proficient, you can offer additional online marketing services like Facebook Ad or Instagram Ad campaigns where you can plan and maintain a social media content calendar and engage on behalf of the business on social media.

No specific qualification is required, but many employers expect to see proof of your social media skills. They will also ask for experience with social media management tools and creating and running paid ads.

Creating visually engaging and attractive media posts can require an eye for trends, data analysis and ad copy skills.  So, if you’d like to set up social media accounts, design and plan a regular number of posts with relevant keywords, you would have to investigate how much this will cost and plan according to the budget provided.

💰 Starting out in social media consulting may earn you around £20,000* p.a. in the UK, but there’s no limit to what you can earn at the top as big companies will pay very well for top-notch social media marketing.

7. Web Designing

web Designing

As more people have a blog or website, more web designers are required. You can learn to code online for free and start offering your web design services such as designing web pages for clients, adding e-commerce functions, animations etc. Basic SEO skills and frontend and backend database management skills are equally important to become a top online address for web design.

Initially, you can build a portfolio with case studies you’ve worked on via various blogging platforms. Experiment and learn while you work on web designing projects.

💰 A web designer in the UK can earn up to £41,000* a year in employment. You could first do a few web design gigs or work for a company part-time to have a regular income while you develop your skills.

8. Blogging

Blogging has become a lucrative avenue to earn money online. If you enjoy writing regularly and posting content on trending topics, you’re passionate about then you can easily set up a blog. But it’s not enough to just publish blog articles as a successful blogger, you must strive to build a robust following and have your blogs read or shared as much as possible in order to earn money from blogging through affiliate marketing, product promotions, guest posting, and so on.

You might ask yourself how to start a blog and it’s far less complicated than you might think. You can begin by choosing a niche for your blog such as travel, fitness, health, finance, technology, cooking, you name it. Don’t worry if you have no prior experience in blogging, you can find plenty of expert tutorials on YouTube or the SeekaHost University.

If you use WordPress for your blog, you can set it up in less than 5 minutes with the SeekaPanel. Watch this video to discover how quick and easy it is:

💰 Bloggers earn in different ways like as an Amazon Affiliate you can earn 4-8% commissions for every sale through your website and there are many other ways you can monetize a website, which you can learn more about here.

9. Domaining

There are billions of websites out there and every day some are being registered and some are being dropped.

Domains can become very valuable, depending on their backlink profile and domain history and authority. People search for good, branded domains that are keyword rich with catchy domain names.

If you can find good, expired domains via domain auction platforms, you may be able to purchase them at a bargain price and sell them again for a much higher price after you have built it to a level that attracts a good amount of traffic.

When purchasing a domain, you need to establish its possible value and you should also consider a dot com domain for international sales rather than a country-specific extension like However, if you would like to focus on a website that is attractive to the UK market, then this extension is more suitable.

💰 The so-called domaining business is growing and can be very lucrative. You can learn more about how domain auctions and domain sales work in this domaining guide.

10. Exclusive Community Content Creation

The Internet is seeing the rise of online platforms that offer exclusive membership only content where payable fees apply to access the content created by its authors or owners.

Creative minds can establish an inner-circle community on platforms like Patreon and OnlyFans, subscription-based websites that allow the account user to monetize their exclusive content they only share with their subscribers that have paid access.

Such platforms have seen a big surge throughout the pandemic going from 7.5 million users to 85 million in March 2020. Content creators can share anything via their channels ranging from online classes to live streams about any topic under the sun.

So, how do you earn money with your exclusive content?

Content creators determine a subscription cost for their channel which ranges from $3 to $100 per month on average. As their community and content grows so increases their subscription fee and subscribers can give a tip of up to $100 per day. The platforms don’t really set any limitations on the creator’s fee policies. Creators can charge additional fees of up to $50 per day for so-called “exclusive” or “bonus” content to existing subscribers.

The most popular ways to make money on these platforms is to create and post content like photos, videos and live streams. Depending on the platform’s policies, content creators take away 80-95% of their account revenue and the platform keeps 5-20% (this will depend on the type of account creators choose).

It is important to bear in mind that a high revenue can only be achieved with a big organic following, which often relies on already having a successfully built online and social media presence to entice those followers to pay for the exclusive content. However, if you do manage to achieve that, then you can become a millionaire with exclusive content.

💰 The top earners on these content platforms made around $20 million every month in early 2021 according to OnlyFans and Patreon, which includes celebrities and influencers.

Summing Up

Hopefully you will now be inspired to test some creative online money-making methods in the UK to discover how much extra cash you can earn via your laptop or smartphone without having to step out of your house. Utilize the opportunities and options the internet provides you with and use your talent and creativity wisely. Because only if you pick one that is suitable and beneficial for you, will you be able to earn from it in the long term. Don’t go for quick solutions like paid surveys, but rather learn additional digital skills and build something for the future.
