How To Make Money Online In Germany (12 Best Ways)

The concept of work from home or remote work was nearly unimaginable even a decade back and many couldn’t imagine doing online jobs in Germany. Now it is considered the new normal, especially since the lockdown due to the global pandemic.
The internet has opened up new vistas and working online means no more long commutes followed by longer working hours. I have decided to start the UK Education Blog in 2018 as a side hustle while working full-time as a teacher. It has enabled me to now work as a blogger and online media strategist for ClickDo Ltd. full-time while living a digital nomad lifestyle. And yes, I love it! Read all about my first digitally inspired summer in 2018.

Best Work From Home & Online Jobs in Germany

1. TranslatorForeign languages translation concept, online translator

This is the perfect job if you are well versed in English and German or any other languages in combination with German. Translation has become a vital task as global trade has grown. Almost all business documents, deeds, affidavits, and memorandums need translation into English for circulation among international clients. It helps if you have a diploma or degree in the English language or target language, but it is not mandatory. Of course, without certification, you would need to prove your grasp of English or the target language for translation in the first few bottom-dollar projects. If your work is good enough, then with experience, a great case study portfolio, and positive client reviews, the need for certification fades. Some online job websites and search engines also give you the option to show your skills through tests they provide. This can increase trustworthiness.

Of utmost importance is understanding that a translator translates not only words but also the spirit of the content and message a company or client wants to convey. Your web content, for example, must be more than the sum of the different content parts and reflect the sentiment of the original, but with a matching cultural angle. German translation services accommodate various sectors, such as law, health care, and finance, which you will need to research more on if you want to specialise in your translation skills. The industries above will require you to undergo training that’s tailored to the field you will specialise in before you can apply as a certified or sworn German translator to start a career in these industries. With over 130 million language speakers and about six countries considering German as their official language, you rest assured knowing that as a translator, there will always be a demand for your services. In 2024, the average annual salary for a translator in Germany is €32,369.

You can listen to the interview I conducted with my close friend Alexandra Bekavac, who is a sworn translator in Germany, to understand more about her journey and how she earns a living from translating:

Let me tell you that British and German humour is very different so if a client website were telling a joke or a funny slogan, your job would be to make it sound funny in both languages. When I helped translate content and documents for a Swiss-German educational website called Bambino Learncare into English, it was challenging due to the differences in the national and regional public and political systems influencing education. So, translating from German means you don’t just speak for Germans, but also Austrians or Swiss in some cases, which is exciting and may open up many more online work opportunities.

2. Bloggermake-money-online-in-germany-as-blogger

3. Data EntryData Entry - Work From Home Jobs

In Germany, the estimated total pay for a Data Entry professional is €49,875 per year, with an average salary of €45,000 annually. The task itself is quite simple. You are required to input a large number of data into a prescribed format, usually from Excel to a database website. There are two caveats:

Speed and Accuracy: To excel in data entry, you need to type at a very high speed—at least 60 words per minute (WPM), though speeds of 90 WPM or higher are often preferred by clients. This speed needs to be coupled with exceptional accuracy. Typically, you’ll be expected to maintain an accuracy rate of 95% or higher, with some positions requiring you to hit 22,500 keystrokes per hour. These standards ensure that the data you enter is both correct and completed within tight deadlines, a common demand in industries that rely heavily on data integrity.

The best way to prepare is to learn to type using any of the dozens of free typing software available online. Also, learn to use an ergonomic keyboard for better quality work. Otherwise, you would burn out in a year. This field also has a considerable number of fly-by-night operators who do not pay. Cater to a small and dependable clientele who regularly provide you with work. I provide more tips on highly rated online job sites in the Make Money Online Kindle Book, where I mainly cover international job sites many Germans also use such as Fiverr, Upwork and more.

4. Online SurveysOnline Surveys - Work From Home Jobs

It is the most straightforward work-from-home job and also pays the least. Opinion polls and surveys help companies better understand the customer’s needs. The questions might be about buyer psychology (e.g., your feelings when purchasing/unboxing), taste (colour, material), or financial (what is too expensive/affordable) in nature. The information is rarely personally identifiable but rather an insight into a typical person’s mind from a marketer’s perspective. Several platforms offer surveys, and there is very little labour involved in filling up questionnaires. The average earnings from online surveys in Germany can vary based on several factors, including the survey site, the number of surveys you complete, and your demographics. Generally, you can expect to earn around $2 – $5 per hour on average.

This is one of the best WFH hustles while working full-time in your main job.  Doing online surveys, however, does not lead to a skill set that would enable you to build on a career. Better options therefore are side hustles like working as a virtual assistant as it can be done in an hour while you earn some extra cash rather than rewards or tokens while you hone skills like admin tasks or email or social media marketing.

5. Content Writer/CopywriterContent writer - Work From Home Jobs

It is a writing job similar to a blogger. But apart from that, they share very little in common. As a copywriter, you are not going to write about your passion but what your client wants and needs. In 2024, the average annual salary for a copywriter is €40,904. It could be a sales letter, a website’s About Us page, a blog post with specific keywords inserted brilliantly into the text, and a myriad of more similar tasks, which I describe in more detail in my portfolio section and my blog posts here about content writing jobs and business ideas. What is needed is a good grasp of language, extensive vocabulary, ability to research quickly, formulate thoughts, and pen them down in simple, lucid sentences that appeal to a reader. Besides, you would need innate curiosity because the topics you may write about could be as varied as travel to Serengeti to the best ten DSLR cameras under Euro 1000.

With the right skills and mindset, you can tap into this growing market and create a successful online career. However, with the rise of AI, the role of copywriters is shifting—AI tools can handle basic tasks, pushing copywriters to focus on creativity, strategy, and crafting content that resonates on a deeper level.

6. SEOSEO - Work From Home Jobs

SEO means search engine optimisation. It is how a website climbs up the search engine page ranking algorithm. Several distinct tasks are performed by the SEO industry. Some of these include keyword analytics, traffic measurement, backlink monitoring, etc. No formal training is required, but an SEO certification or even a free MOOC course would help you understand the industry better. You obviously cannot handle the whole SEO process at first, and it is best to start off as an assistant who works from home. The sky is the limit for earning as your skills improve. In Germany, the average pay for an SEO Specialist is €69,289 per year or €33 per hour. The typical salary range for an SEO Specialist is between €49,473 and €83,632.

SEO is a vital skill for many online jobs and if you want to be successful online in Germany, you will have to learn important keywords and how to implement them in your texts so that it attracts the right audience. This is why at SeekaHost University I and my ClickDo colleagues share their SEO skills and wisdom, which can be applied in any language with the right SEO tools. Fernando Raymond, the #1 SEO consultant at ClickDo, who is also a course instructor at SeekaHost University, shares many SEO tips on his blog. You should read his latest guide about PBN SEO to understand the promising SEO strategies he uses to rank hundreds of websites.

7. Virtual AssistantVirtual Assistant - Work From Home Jobs

Virtual assistants offer online administrative support to firms worldwide. With so many start-ups, there is a need for someone to maintain their books of accounts, prepare payroll, and attend to the nitty-gritty of running an office. A virtual assistant works full-time for a company or part-time for several and assists with the management of all office tasks. In Germany, the average gross salary for a virtual assistant is €35,770 per year or an hourly rate of €17. An entry-level virtual assistant with 1-3 years of experience earns an average salary of €27,963, while a senior-level virtual assistant with 8 or more years of experience earns an average salary of €42,757.

From writing emails to drafting circulars and proofreading press releases – it is all in a day’s work for a virtual assistant and you can advertise your services in German or English via freelance platforms like Fiverr, Upwork or job sites like Indeed.

8. Social Media Analyst/MarketerSocial Media Analyst - Work From Home Jobs

If you cannot stay away from Instagram or Facebook, this is the perfect job for you. A significant part of marketing has moved online and into social media. There is a constant need to monitor the publishing calendar and find the perfect platform that offers high ROI for marketing investment. It requires a degree of comfort with figures and statistics and the ability to objectively analyse and prepare a report based on which the company can tweak its marketing strategy. In the German capital Berlin, the estimated annual salary for a Social Media Analyst is €27,000.

You will be required to understand how to run paid ads on social media channels and how to gain more likes and shares for any social media campaign you manage. This will also involve a certain level of creative and converting social media copy and image or even video design to make each social media post as effective as possible. Many German businesses will look for assistance with their social media activities for perhaps just a few hours a week as they might already use marketing automation tools that require some human input for post and ad creation and scheduling.

It’s best to check online job platforms like Fiverr, Upwork and co. to see what the current expectations are for such gigs and we also share tips on the ClickDo YT channel

9. Video Gamer

earn-money-with-Minecraft-gaming-and-running-a-game-server-for-playersOnline gaming is another big money generator and in Germany, video games like Minecraft attract a huge following on YouTube for example. For Minecraft fanatics, there are many ways to cash in on their gaming passion and skill. If you want to start earning through online gaming, you need to have a Minecraft game server first. You need to invest time, skill and effort to maintain and build the server, a unique Minecraft world and a dedicated community for other Minecraft players. Beginners can buy a Minecraft server from a reliable hosting provider like SeekaHost and they can read more about how to get started with the SeekaHost Minecraft Server Guide. Try these money-generating avenues once your Minecraft server is up and running:

  • Earn by streaming your Minecraft gaming experience:

Build a YouTube channel and add a variety of content related to your gaming like expert tips, behind-the-scenes, etc. You can earn a decent income through the YouTube monetisation scheme which is covered in more detail in the above-mentioned ClickDo Make Money Online Guide.

  • Charge players for using your server:

Once you advertise your server and attract people to it, you can begin to charge players for the use of your server. You can charge a decent amount for an awesome world with great visual impact, expansions, mods and more. If users like your Minecraft world, you can charge membership fees, where you could offer different packages depending on the play duration, features etc.

  • Create a “task-based” virtual currency program for players:

Set up your Minecraft server so that players use a virtual currency to play games. You can allocate a specific amount of virtual currency based on the tasks they complete. These tasks could be linked to your business affiliate schemes and advertising arrangements, encouraging players to download their products such as applications. You could also get your players to watch your advertiser’s latest ads or subscribe to their email lists for example.

While there is no specific data on the average pay for video gamers, there is information available for video game testers in Germany. According to SalaryExpert, the average salary for a video game tester in Germany is around €67.840 per year, which translates to approximately €33 per hour. Additionally, they can earn an average bonus of about €2.327. There are more advanced ways to earn with Minecraft, which you can find out about in the SeekaHost Make Money With Minecraft Guide.

10. Online Tutoringmake-money-online-in-germany-as-online-tutoring

Online tutoring has become a popular and flexible way to earn money in Germany, especially as more students and adults seek personalised learning experiences outside the traditional classroom. If you have expertise in a specific subject, particularly in high-demand areas like STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or language learning, you can offer your tutoring services to students of all age groups in Germany.

To become a successful online tutor, you should have a strong grasp of the subject you wish to teach. While formal teaching qualifications can be advantageous, they are not always necessary, especially for subjects where practical knowledge is highly valued, such as coding or languages. Many platforms like Spires, Preply, or Italki allow you to showcase your skills through video introductions or sample lessons, which can help attract potential students.

In Germany, there is a high demand for tutoring in subjects like the English and German language, mathematics, and test preparation for exams such as the Abitur. Additionally, tutoring for adult learners in areas like business English, computer skills, or even German as a foreign language is also in demand. This makes online tutoring especially profitable in Germany, where education is highly valued, and there is a willingness to invest in quality learning experiences for both adults and children. As more people seek to improve their skills for career advancement or personal development, the need for qualified tutors continues to grow.

  • Cultural Sensitivity and Tailored Lessons:

As an online tutor, it’s important to tailor your lessons to meet the specific needs of your students. For example, if you’re teaching German to international students, understanding their native language and cultural background can help you create more effective lessons. Similarly, when preparing German students for exams, familiarity with the German education system and exam formats is crucial.

  • Platform Utilisation:

Platforms like Superprof and Preply offer a wide range of tools to help you manage your tutoring business. These platforms typically handle payment processing, and scheduling, and sometimes even provide teaching resources. This allows you to focus on delivering high-quality lessons rather than worrying about administrative tasks.

  • Earnings and Flexibility:

Tutoring rates in Germany can vary depending on the subject, your experience, and the level of instruction. On average, tutors can earn approximately €14 per hour. Online tutoring also offers great flexibility, allowing you to set your own schedule and work from home or anywhere with a stable internet connection. This makes it an ideal option for students, stay-at-home parents, or anyone looking for a side income.

  • Building a Reputation:

Building a good reputation is key to long-term success in online tutoring. Encourage your students to leave positive reviews and testimonials on your profile, as this will help attract more clients. Over time, as you accumulate positive feedback and success stories, you can potentially increase your rates and expand your tutoring services.

11. Dropshippingmake-money-online-in-germany-as-dropshipping

Dropshipping is a popular e-commerce business model that allows you to sell products online without holding any inventory. This business model has gained significant traction in Germany, as it offers a low-risk entry into the world of online retail.

  • How Dropshipping Works:

In a dropshipping business, you set up an online store, typically through platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, SeekaHost, or even Amazon Germany. You select products from suppliers, usually based in countries like China or the US, and list them for sale on your website. When a customer places an order, the supplier ships the product directly to the customer. You earn a profit by charging a higher price than what you pay the supplier.

  • Product Selection and Market Research:

The success of a dropshipping business largely depends on the products you choose to sell. In Germany, popular niches include eco-friendly products, health and wellness items, electronics, and unique home decor. Conduct thorough market research to identify trending products and understand consumer preferences in Germany. Tools like Google Trends, social media, and competitor analysis can help you spot profitable niches.

  • Marketing and Customer Acquisition:

Marketing strategies are crucial in dropshipping, as you need to drive traffic to your online store. Utilising platforms like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and Instagram can help you reach potential customers. Content marketing, such as blogging or creating video content around your products, can also help establish your brand and attract organic traffic. Additionally, offering discounts, free shipping, or other promotions can entice customers to make a purchase.

  • Challenges and Considerations:

While dropshipping offers low upfront costs, it does come with challenges. Shipping times can be longer, especially if your supplier is based overseas, which might lead to customer dissatisfaction. To mitigate this, consider using European suppliers or opting for faster shipping methods, even if they are more expensive. Additionally, the competitive nature of dropshipping means you’ll need to constantly optimise your store, experiment with different products, and refine your marketing strategies.

  • Earnings Potential:

Earnings in dropshipping can vary widely depending on your niche, marketing efforts, and the products you sell. While some dropshippers in Germany manage to build six-figure businesses, others may only see modest returns. The average monthly income of a drop shipper ranges from $1,000 to $5,000. Drop shippers typically earn a profit of around 10% to 30% from each sale. It’s important to approach dropshipping with realistic expectations and be prepared to invest time in learning the intricacies of e-commerce and digital marketing.

12. Affiliate Marketingmake-money-online-in-germany-as-affiliate-marketing

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based online business model where you earn a commission by promoting other companies’ products or services. In Germany, it’s an especially relevant and popular way to make money online, thanks to the country’s strong e-commerce market and high internet penetration. If you have a website, blog, or strong social media presence, affiliate marketing can be a lucrative opportunity, as German consumers increasingly turn to online shopping and value trusted recommendations from content creators. This growing demand for online products and services makes affiliate marketing a promising avenue for generating income in the German market.

  • How Affiliate Marketing Works:

As an affiliate marketer, you promote products or services through unique affiliate links provided by the companies you partner with. When someone clicks on your link and makes a purchase, you earn a commission. The commission rate can vary depending on the product and the affiliate program, ranging from 3% to 20% or more.

  • Choosing the Right Affiliate Programs:

In Germany, there are several reputable affiliate networks and programs to choose from, including Awin (formerly Zanox), Amazon Associates Germany, and Digistore24. When selecting an affiliate program, consider the types of products you want to promote. Popular categories include technology, fashion, health and wellness, and financial services. It’s also important to choose products that align with your audience’s interests and needs.

  • Content Creation and Promotion:

Successful affiliate marketing relies heavily on content creation. Whether you run a blog, a YouTube channel, or an Instagram account, creating valuable and engaging content that resonates with your audience is key. For example, if you’re promoting tech products, writing detailed reviews, creating comparison guides, or producing unboxing videos can help drive traffic to your affiliate links.

  • Building Trust with Your Audience:

Transparency is crucial in affiliate marketing. Clearly disclose your affiliate relationships to your audience, as this builds trust and credibility. Your audience is more likely to purchase through your links if they believe in your recommendations and understand that you genuinely endorse the products.

  • Challenges and Opportunities:

Affiliate marketing can be highly competitive, especially in popular niches. To stand out, focus on providing unique insights or targeting less saturated markets. Additionally, keeping up with trends, new products, and changes in affiliate program terms is essential for sustained success. On the plus side, affiliate marketing offers the potential for passive income, as older content can continue to generate commissions long after it’s been published.

  • Earnings Potential:

Earnings in affiliate marketing can vary greatly depending on your niche, traffic, and conversion rates. While some affiliate marketers earn a few hundred euros per month, others have scaled their efforts to generate significant income. In Germany, the estimated annual salary for an Affiliate Marketing Manager is €43,000. As you refine your strategies and grow your audience, your earning potential can increase substantially.

These detailed options provide a deeper understanding of how to make money online in Germany, offering various opportunities tailored to different skills and interests.

Final Thoughts…

Work-from-home jobs offer the flexibility to explore different roles and find what suits you best. Blogging or running a YouTube channel requires a full-time commitment, while data entry and online surveys need less time and creativity but offer lower pay. This trend is here to stay.

Being proactive and carving out a niche early can give you an edge in both German and international online job markets. Starting a blog is highly recommended, whether for a professional online presence and portfolio or sharing your passion and expertise. Blogging can be a cornerstone of online success in many different industries and niches. You can already start blogging as a student to get a head start!

Publishing content in various languages can help, but targeting the German market requires perfect German. Any online platform that resonates with your audience can boost your online career. Watch the video below for tips on creating an online presence that represents you uniquely:

How to Successfully Create and Sell Online Courses

How to Successfully Create and Sell Online Courses

Creating and selling courses online is now not only affordable but also an extremely effective way to position yourself as an expert in your niche. The Internet has long opened unlimited opportunities for us.

So, why not use it to share your knowledge and skills with the global community?

However, success in this endeavour increasingly requires not only high-quality material but also a strategic approach to its creation and course marketing.

That is why it is important to know and be guided in what is needed to create your own online course successfully and market it.

Course Concept Creation

course-concept-creation.The first thing you need to do when you create a digital course is to clearly define its concept and the ultimate goals that the user will achieve. Therefore, you need to:

  • clearly define your target audience,
  • research your TA thoroughly.

This will help determine their needs and expectations from the course. According to the data obtained, determine:

  • the topic of the course,
  • what subtopics it will consist of,
  • the format of the workshop,
  • the level of complexity of the course,
  • perhaps it will have several variations in terms of difficulty levels.

Course Content Creation and Technical Considerations

course-content-creation-and-technical-considerations.1. How to Make a Course to Sell

Develop a detailed course plan, including all the necessary subtopics and materials. It is vital to keep in mind the variety of content formats. It can be both video lessons and text materials. As well as tests, assignments for independent work, etc.

Regardless of the format, it is essential to organize all this in a way that is not overloaded with information and at the same time provides comprehensive material on the key topic. To

do this, divide the course into blocks and sub-blocks. If possible, add relevant visualizations and graphic elements to highlight key points. It is crucial that they are relevant to the topic and do not overload it. Likewise, they should not draw attention to themselves, but rather be a logical complement to the main material and help it to be understood more easily.

It is not uncommon to find yourself needing to record the screen when you are explaining something to your audience. You may also want to insert certain moments from the current online recording into a future course. To do this, you will need to choose the best screen recording software.

This is often a key element in creating high-quality content for your online course. For Mac users, apps to screen record on Mac, like QuickTime Player, Camtasia, and ScreenFlow, offer excellent opportunities to create professional video tutorials. Other screen recorders for Mac include OBS Studio, Screencast-O-Matic, and others. They will help you create video tutorials that will be of high quality. It will also emphasize your professional approach to the business.

2. Platforms for Hosting

Choosing a platform to host a workshop is an equally important step after course creation. The most trusted course platforms are those that have already proven themselves and continue to be very popular. These include Udemy, Coursera, and WordPress-based LMSs.

Whichever platform you choose, take your choice seriously, considering your capabilities. Before choosing, pay attention to the commissions, marketing opportunities, and functionality of a particular platform.

Marketing and Promotion of the Course

marketing-and-Promotion-of-the-course.Creating a course is only the first step. Next, you place it on a certain platform. However, selling courses online requires effective marketing and promotion if you want to make your training programs popular.

This is equally critical for attracting an audience. Use social media and advertising. Don’t forget to collaborate with influencers to promote your content.

1. Advertising

Online advertising is a super effective way to attract new participants to your course. You can use a variety of platforms to run ads. These include Google Ads and Facebook Ads. It can also be LinkedIn Ads. It is essential to set up your ad campaigns correctly.

To do this, consider:

  • your target audience,
  • your budget,
  • the goal of the campaign.

2. Using social media

Social media has proven to be a powerful tool for promoting businesses regardless of their size. The same can be true for your course. Create a course page on popular social networks. Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter. Post engaging content that will attract the attention of your future audience.

It can be:

  • short videos,
  • quotes from the course,
  • announcements of upcoming webinars or promotions, etc.

3. Collaboration with influencers

Collaborating with bloggers and other influencers can help bring additional, needed attention to your learning program. That is why you should try to look for personalities who have a large audience in your niche and are ready to recommend your course to their subscribers. This can be through promotional posts or joint projects.

4. Analysis and Improvement

Never forget to analyse the results of your marketing strategy. Otherwise, you can’t improve it. Use analytical tools and determine the effectiveness of each promotion channel. This way, you can adjust your actions in time to achieve the best results.

Closing Thoughts

Creating and selling online courses is a promising trend in modern society and, accordingly, in the contemporary educational process. Given the vast possibilities of the Internet and the growing demand for quality education, a successful course can become not only a source of profit but also a tool. A tool for development and influence. For that, we sincerely wish you success in this field and inspiration to create high-quality material.

become-a-digital-nomad-and-a-digital-marketer

But how do you become a digital nomad with no experience? Is it possible to start from scratch and build a successful career as a location-independent professional?

The answer is yes, but it requires some planning, preparation, and perseverance.

In this digital nomad guide, I will share with you my journey of becoming a digital nomad and give you some tips and advice on how you can do the same. Don’t worry, anyone can achieve this!

My Digital Nomad Story: How I Became a Digital Nomad and a Digital Marketer

I have always loved travelling and learning new things. I studied education at university and later journalism and blogging in my free time while I worked as a teacher and a content writer and translator for several years.

I talk about my journey in more depth here:

However, at some point, I felt that something was missing in my life. I wanted more freedom, flexibility, ownership, and challenge in my work. I wanted to be able to work from anywhere in the world, without being limited by geography or time zones.

That’s when I discovered the concept of digital nomadism. I was fascinated by the idea of combining work and travel and being able to earn money online while pursuing my passions. I decided to take the plunge and quit my teaching job to become a full-time digital marketer with ClickDo.

This was only possible because I’d worked part-time for ClickDo previously, learning the SEO and digital marketing skills that would eventually get me the job of a full-time senior marketer at the agency.

Digital marketing is one of the most popular and lucrative fields for digital nomads. I had some basic skills in writing, editing, blogging and social media when I started to work for ClickDo, but I knew that was not enough to land me a decent full-time job online with the salary I wanted. I needed to learn more about SEO, content marketing, email marketing, web design, analytics, and other aspects of digital marketing.

I achieved this through learning by doing basically. I learned all about WordPress, SEO, blogging and digital marketing through the guidance of ClickDo’s CEO Fernando Raymond along with online tutorials and SeekaHost University courses.

The courses are taught by ClickDo marketing and SEO experts who have years of experience in the industry, and who are also digital nomads themselves. They gave me valuable insights into how to find and manage clients and projects and grow my portfolio online.

The journalism course I did for one summer holiday when I was off from teaching also gave me access to a supportive community of fellow students and mentors who helped me improve my writing, research, and journalistic skills. They gave me feedback on my assignments, answered my questions, and shared their own experiences and tips on working as writers, journalists, and even digital nomads. All these experiences encouraged me to start my blog, manuelawillbold.com, where I could showcase my work and build my brand online.

On top of my basic pay, I get paid commissions, so I gradually built up a growing stream of income from making additional sales for ClickDo. I built blogs and magazines for ClickDo that would offer guest posting and PR services, which would serve as additional income sources besides client work.

Parts of my daily work include content writing, editing, proofreading, SEO, social media marketing, email marketing, web designing, and SEO consultancy for clients around the world. Some of them are small businesses or startups that need help with their online presence or marketing. Other established brands or agencies outsource some of their work to me.

Here’s more about my life as a digital marketer and nomad in London:

I also started to hire more freelancers as my workload increased. I now work with content creators and publishers, email and social media marketers, salespeople, and web designers to delegate tasks so that we can scale our operations in digital marketing and website monetisation.

Thanks to these developments, I can grow my income and reputation as a digital marketer. I constantly learn new skills and expand my portfolio with more diverse and challenging projects, new collaborations, and partnerships, which in turn enable me to charge higher rates for my work and negotiate better terms with my clients.

Nowadays, I earn enough money online and remotely to support myself and fund my travels around the world. I have visited over 30 countries and plan to visit many more while working remotely from anywhere I want as a digital nomad.

How you can become a digital nomad with no experience

become-a-digital-nomad-with-no-experience

As a digital nomad, you can work from home, cafes, co-working spaces, hotels, or anywhere with a reliable internet connection. You can also travel as much or as little as you want if you’re self-employed or depending on your and your employer’s preferences and budget.

But is it possible to start this lifestyle without having any prior skills, work, or education in the online world?

Yes, you can, and I will guide you through the steps you need to take to become a digital nomad with no experience. I will also highlight some of the necessary skills, work and education options, and possible career paths that can enable you to live and work as a digital nomad.

Check out my highlights of living as a digital nomad here:

Step 1: Assess Your Current Situation

The first step to becoming a digital nomad with no experience is to assess your current situation and determine what you need to change or improve. Some of the questions you should ask yourself are:

  1. What are your goals and motivations for becoming a digital nomad?
  2. What are your current skills and strengths?
  3. What are your current weaknesses and gaps?
  4. What are your current income sources and expenses?
  5. How much savings do you have and how long can they last?
  6. How much debt do you have and how can you pay it off?
  7. How flexible are you in terms of time, location, and lifestyle?

By answering these questions honestly, you will have a clearer picture of where you are now and where you want to go. You will also be able to identify the areas that you need to work on or learn more about before you can start your digital nomad journey.

Check out my tips for working as a digital nomad in this video:

Step 2: Learn New Skills or Improve Existing Ones

The next step to becoming a digital nomad with no experience is to learn new skills or improve existing ones that can help you find online work or create your own online business.

learn-new-skills-to-become-a-digital-nomad

Many skills are in high demand in the online world, such as:

  • Web development
  • Graphic design
  • Content writing
  • Copywriting
  • Social media marketing
  • SEO
  • Digital Marketing
  • Online teaching
  • Virtual assistance
  • Translation
  • Data entry

You don't need to master all these skills, but you should choose one or a few that match your interests, talents, and goals. You should also consider the level of difficulty, competition, and income potential of each skill.

Check out this ClickDo Guide to get an idea of remote working jobs that pay well while aligning with your expectations and goals:

Remote Working Jobs

There are many ways to learn new skills or improve existing ones, such as:

  • Taking online courses or tutorials
  • Reading books or blogs
  • Watching videos or podcasts
  • Joining online communities or forums
  • Practising on your projects or portfolios
  • Offering your services for free or at a low rate to gain experience and feedback

The key is to be consistent, curious, and committed to learning and improving every day. You should also seek out mentors, peers, or clients who can help you grow and challenge yourself.

Step 3: Find Online Work or Create Your Own Online Business

The third step to becoming a digital nomad with no experience is to find online work or create your own online business that can generate enough income to sustain your lifestyle.

There are two main ways to do this

Working as a freelancer

freelancer-working-as-digital-nomad

This means offering your skills or services to clients on a project-by-project basis. You can find freelance work on platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, PeoplePerHour, Freelancer.com, etc., or by networking with other freelancers, digital nomads, or potential clients. The advantages of freelancing are that you have more control over your schedule, rates, and projects. The disadvantages are that you have less stability, security, and benefits.

Working as an employee

This means working for a company or organization that allows remote work. You can find remote work on platforms like FlexJobs, and Remote.co, We Work Remotely, etc., or by applying directly to companies that offer remote positions. The advantages of working as an employee are that you have more stability, security, and benefits. The disadvantages are that you have less control over your schedule, rates, and projects.

Starting your own Business

start-your-own-business-as-digital-nomad

You can also create your own online business by selling products or services that solve a problem or meet a need for a specific audience, I share tips for freelance copywriting businesses for example. You can create your website or blog, e-commerce store, online course, podcast etc., and monetize it through various methods such as advertising, affiliate marketing, sponsorships, subscriptions, etc.

Step 4: Making money online

If you dream of travelling the world and working from anywhere, you might be interested in becoming a digital nomad. A digital nomad is someone who uses the internet to earn money and live a location-independent lifestyle. But how do you make money online to support this kind of lifestyle or to even retire early?

I will share some of the most popular and profitable ways to make money online as a digital nomad but you can also check out my previous popular guides on making money online in Germany and earning online in the UK.

1. Freelancing

Freelancing is one of the easiest and most flexible ways to make money online. You can offer your skills and services to clients around the world, such as writing, graphic design, web development, marketing, translation, and more. You can find freelance gigs on platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer, or create your own website and portfolio. Freelancing allows you to set your rates, hours, and projects, but it also requires discipline, communication, and time management skills.

2. Blogging

blogging-as-digital-nomad

Blogging is another way to make money online by creating and sharing valuable content with your audience. You can blog about anything you are passionate about, such as travel, lifestyle, fitness, fashion, or personal development. You can monetize your blog by displaying ads, selling products or services, promoting affiliate offers, or creating sponsored posts. Blogging takes time and effort to grow your traffic and income, but it can also be very rewarding and fun.

3. E-commerce

E-commerce is the process of selling products or services online. You can create your online store using platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, or Etsy, or sell on marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, or AliExpress. You can sell physical products, digital products, or dropship products from other suppliers. E-commerce requires some upfront investment, inventory management, and customer service skills, but it can also generate passive income and scale easily.

4. Online courses

make-online-courses-as-digital-nomad

Online courses are another way to make money online by sharing your knowledge and expertise with others. You can create and sell online courses on e-course platforms like Udemy, Skillshare, Teachable, or Podia, or host them on your website. You can teach anything you are good at or interested in, such as languages, business, photography, music, or personal development. Online courses can be a great source of passive income and authority building.

5. Podcasting

Podcasting is the art of creating and distributing audio content online. You can start a podcast on any topic you are passionate about or have an audience for, such as travel, entrepreneurship, sports, comedy, or education. You can monetize your podcast by attracting sponsors, selling products or services, accepting donations, or creating premium content.

Podcasting requires some equipment, editing skills, and marketing strategies, but it can also be a great way to connect with your audience and grow your brand.

I’m just getting started as you can see here:

These are just some of the ways to make money online as a digital nomad. There are many more options and opportunities out there for you to explore and experiment with. The key is to find something that suits your skills, interests, goals, and lifestyle preferences.

Remember that making money online consistently is not easy or quick; it takes hard work, dedication, and patience. But if you are willing to learn and adapt along the way, you can achieve your dream of living as a digital nomad, especially if you understand how to scale and automate operations.

Step 5: Planning your digital nomad lifestyle

plan-your-digital-nomad-lifestyle

Digital nomad dream of working from anywhere in the world, exploring new cultures, and having more freedom and flexibility in their life, so utilising technology effectively to work remotely and live a location-independent lifestyle is key to achieving this dream.

Becoming a digital nomad is not as easy as it sounds. It requires careful planning, preparation, and adaptation. I will share some tips on how to plan and master the digital nomad lifestyle, based on my own experience and research.

1. Define your goals and expectations

Before you embark on your digital nomad journey, you need to have a clear idea of why you want to do it, what you hope to achieve, and what challenges you might face. For example, do you want to travel the world, learn new skills, or start your own business? How long do you plan to be a digital nomad? How will you balance work and leisure? How will you deal with loneliness, culture shock, or visa issues? Having realistic goals and expectations will help you stay motivated and focused.

2. Choose your destination(s) wisely

One of the perks of being a digital nomad is that you can choose where to live and work. However, not all destinations are equally suitable for digital nomads. You need to consider factors such as cost of living, internet speed, safety, climate, culture, language, and time zone. You also need to research the visa requirements and regulations for each country you want to visit.

Some popular destinations for digital nomads include Thailand, Bali, Portugal, Mexico, and Estonia, but I personally love Greece, Spain, Germany, the UK and most of Europe. I share some travel tips for digital nomads here:

3. Secure a reliable source of income

Unless you have a lot of savings or passive income, you will need to find a way to make money online as a digital nomad. There are many options for remote work, such as freelancing, consulting, blogging, podcasting, teaching, or running an e-commerce store as explained in more detail above and in some of my other guides. You can also look for remote jobs on platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, Remote.co, or FlexJobs. Whatever you choose, make sure you have a stable and diversified income stream that can cover your expenses and allow you to save for emergencies and future investments.

4. Pack light and smart

As a digital nomad, you will be moving around a lot, so you don't want to carry too much luggage with you. Ideally, you should be able to fit everything in a carry-on backpack or suitcase. You should only pack the essentials, such as clothes, toiletries, documents, and electronics. You can always buy or rent anything else you need locally. You should also invest in some quality travel gear, such as a laptop stand, a portable charger, a travel adapter, and a VPN service.

5. Build a network and community

build-a-network-and-community-for-digital-nomad

One of the biggest challenges of being a digital nomad is loneliness and isolation. You will be leaving behind your friends and family, and constantly meeting new people who may not share your lifestyle or values. That's why it's important to build a network and community of like-minded people who can support you, inspire you, and collaborate with you. You can join online groups and forums for digital nomads, such as Nomad List, Digital Nomad Network, or Reddit. You can also attend local events and meetups for digital nomads or expats in your destination.

6. Keep learning and growing

Being a digital nomad is not only about working and travelling; it's also about learning and growing as a person. You will have the opportunity to experience different cultures, languages, cuisines, and perspectives that will enrich your life and broaden your horizons. You will also face various challenges and difficulties that will test your resilience and adaptability. To make the most of your digital nomad journey, you should always keep an open mind and a curious attitude. You should also seek feedback and improve your skills and knowledge.

Fernando and I share our digital nomad journeys in this video for more inspiration:

Becoming a digital nomad is not for everyone; it requires a lot of planning, creativity, discipline, and courage. But if you are willing to take the leap and follow the above tips and ideas, you can enjoy a rewarding and fulfilling lifestyle that many people only dream of. If you think it’s for you, test it and see how you get on. You’ve got nothing to lose after all.

What does a Digital Marketer Do to Earn Money Online?

What does a Digital Marketer Do to Earn Money Online?

As the digital marketing job demand has surged by 52%, it becomes evident that most businesses nowadays tap into the digital landscape to achieve success.

As a digital marketer at ClickDo I combine SEO with various other marketing disciplines like social media marketing, email marketing, and more to make our online magazines thrive while providing content marketing and PR services.

So, if you’re an aspiring digital marketer and you wonder if:

  • You need a degree.
  • Digital Marketing is for everyone.
  • You can start out as a digital marketer, and how.

Then read on.

In this guide, I will explain the role of a digital marketer like me and how you can get on the path of becoming one to earn money online from the get-go.

The CEO of ClickDo, Fernando Raymond, has been a digital marketer for over 10 years now and built several digital businesses as a digital entrepreneur based on his success as a digital marketer.

I joined ClickDo in 2018 as a part-time content writer while having a full-time teaching job and I explain my journey from teacher to digital marketer in this video:

The beauty of digital marketing as a skill is that it is versatile and can be utilised in many different ways in the thriving digital economy.

So, let’s discover what a digital marketer does to earn a living.

What is a Digital Marketer?

A digital marketer is a professional who focuses on promoting and advertising products or services using various digital channels and platforms.

Their primary goal is to drive traffic, engagement, and conversions for businesses or clients while building a brand.

Digital marketers employ a range of online marketing techniques to reach their target audience, build brand awareness, and generate leads.

what-is-a-digital-marketer

They typically work within an organization’s marketing department or may be part of a digital marketing agency.

Top Fact: The United Kingdom is the largest digital ad market in Europe and one of the leading digital advertising spenders worldwide according to Statista. There is a clear trend that spending on digital advertising has increased for over a decade as digital continues to thrive.

However, many start out as a freelance digital marketing consultant. That’s how Fernando started back in 2013 to then launch his digital agency ClickDo which employs digital marketers to provide digital marketing services for businesses in the UK.

I didn’t start out as a digital marketer as I didn’t have the skills when I joined ClickDo. But I was good at writing content, had a passion for it, and had done a summer course in journalism at the London School of Journalism. With ClickDo I learned SEO skills, which are important for digital marketing.

While I started building and growing some blogs for ClickDo like the London Business News Magazine or Green Living Blog, I gained more skills like WordPress skills, social media marketing, and email marketing skills to increase the reach of these blogs.

So, it is fair to say that becoming a digital marketer doesn’t require a specific qualification, but rather a passion for creating and promoting digital content. Depending on how you get started, you can focus on different online marketing skills that you enjoy the most.

The best part is that you can always make a start with your own website and channels as a first case study, so you wouldn’t necessarily rely on being hired right away or having a degree.

Top 5 Responsibilities of a Digital Marketer:

1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

Optimizing website content to improve search engine rankings and organic traffic is key to driving traffic to online channels. For instance, a digital marketer working for an e-commerce store would focus on using relevant keywords to enhance their website’s visibility on search engines like Google or Bing to gain more exposure.

2. Social Media Marketing:

Creating and managing social media campaigns to engage with the target audience and promote products or services is a key driver for additional traffic and leads. For example, a digital marketer for a fashion brand might run Instagram ads to showcase new collections. Many brands now require daily content for all their socials to keep their audience engaged and growing.

3. Content Marketing:

Producing valuable and relevant content, such as blog posts, videos, or infographics, to attract and retain customers is vital for brands to be seen and noticed. An example would be a digital marketer working for a software company creating informative blog posts about industry trends or how-to guides, which can then be turned into videos and social media posts.

4. Email Marketing:

Developing and executing regular email campaigns to nurture leads and encourage repeat business is another important role of a digital marketer. A digital marketer for a travel agency might send personalized vacation offers to their subscriber list and encourage new subscribers to sign up via the website and socials.

5. Branding:

Developing and executing branding campaigns to increase the visibility and awareness of the business interlinks with all above mentioned disciplines. Thinking of the most famous brands, what a digital marketer would do is utilise advertising on television, streaming channels, social media channels, radio, websites/platforms, etc. to build the brand’s reputation. Working with influencers and celebrities always works for branding and the content makes the biggest difference.

How to earn money as a Digital Marketer?

As explained above, if you want to start out as a digital marketer, you can look for job opportunities, however, most employers will want to see your experience and expertise before they hire you.

how-to-earn-money-as-a-digital-marketer

If you’re only starting out, then the best thing to do is to start with your own case study by creating your own online presence and marketing it yourself. To make money on top of that you can try to land some freelancer gigs via freelance job platforms.

You can then build an online portfolio and if you land more freelance gigs, you can potentially scale your services and develop it into an online business. You might then end up as a digital entrepreneur, who identifies and leverages digital opportunities to create, launch, and grow their online businesses.

So, you would hire other digital marketers who will work for you, and you’d delegate all marketing tasks to them while you are responsible for the entire venture’s success or failure.

To scale your business successfully you need to use your creativity, innovation, and business acumen to develop products or services that cater to specific market needs or gaps.

However, a smart digital business like ClickDo can have multiple digital entrepreneurs that work together for the business that’s founded by a digital entrepreneur who also holds the CEO role of that business.

For example, Fernando Raymond is the founder and CEO of ClickDo and SeekaHost web services. You can learn more about what is digital entrepreneurship in this guide. He trained other ClickDoers to replicate what he did and build their own teams within ClickDo to essentially run their own departments, offering the services they prefer and are best at.

I now work with around 5 assistants who help me manage the blogs, the content, the socials, the emails, etc. I never thought I could do this, but it organically grew with Fernando’s guidance and continues to flourish as ClickDo grows.

See Anna, one of our content creators at ClickDo, in action in this video, where she explains how to earn as a digital marketer:

So, while working as a digital marketer, you might learn additional entrepreneurship and management skills, which you and your career will benefit from. But with success comes responsibility so let’s look at that a bit more.

Top 5 Responsibilities of a Digital Entrepreneur:

1. Generate a Vision:

Identifying a market niche or a problem that can be solved through digital means is the first step in a new venture. However, having a clear vision of the business idea is key to turning it into reality. The vision will determine the journey and focus. For example, a digital entrepreneur might notice a lack of user-friendly productivity apps and decide to create one. They might have a clear vision of its application and the target user, so they know how to build and market the product.

2. Develop a Business:

Creating digital products or services, which could be software, e-books, online courses, or digital consulting, depending on their expertise and interests, is the starting point where the entrepreneur needs to source funds, people, partners, and resources to develop the business.

3. E-commerce Skills:

Building and managing an online store to sell products, and services or drop shipping items is a core skill in the digital economy. For instance, a digital entrepreneur may launch a fashion brand and handle the entire sales process online. So, they need the knowledge or team to manage the e-store effectively.

4. Digital Service Skills:

Utilising digital services like web design, social media management, or content writing are important for running any digital enterprise. An example would be a digital entrepreneur starting a graphic design agency.

5. Marketing Skills:

Implementing digital marketing strategies to grow any business is a must in the digital economy. Digital entrepreneurs often need to wear the hat of a digital marketer in the early stages of their venture until they can scale and hire a marketing team.

In summary, digital marketers focus on promoting products or services for businesses, while digital entrepreneurs create and run their own digital ventures, utilizing digital platforms to innovate and grow their businesses from scratch. Becoming a digital marketer can be the stepping stone to becoming a digital entrepreneur.

So, how do you want to make money?

Whether you’re keen on earning as a digital marketer or digital entrepreneur depends on your preference.

As a digital marketer, you can be employed, which can provide more job security and a regular income. On average digital marketers can expect an annual salary of £36k in the UK. The more senior the role, the higher the salary. As a freelancer this could be more, depending on the clients one lands, but the income may not be regular and more uncertain.

So, starting out as an employed digital marketer might work best to learn best practices with an established employer and you could even offer some digital marketing on the side to earn extra cash.

As a digital entrepreneur, you would be self-employed so you would be responsible for your own and your staff’s income plus the revenue of your business.

It’s therefore easier and less demanding to start out as a digital marketer and once one has the funds and resources to start an online business, it might be less stressful to manage one.

Either way, the digital economy offers a huge earning potential in the digital marketing sphere alone and I’ve written this make-money online guide to showcase this:

48 Home Business Ideas Guide

How To Start A Blog In 2023 And Make Money Blogging (5 Step Guide)

20 Ways on How to Make Money Blogging for Beginners

Schaue dir meine Analyse hier an:

3. DateneingabeData Entry - Work From Home Jobs

4. Online-UmfragenOnline Surveys - Work From Home Jobs

5. Content Writer/Texter
Content writer - Work From Home Jobs

6. SEOSEO - Work From Home Jobs

SEO bedeutet Suchmaschinenoptimierung.

7. Virtueller AssistentVirtual Assistant - Work From Home Jobs

Virtuelle Assistenten bieten Unternehmen weltweit administrative Online-Unterstützung.

8. Social Media AnalystSocial Media Analyst - Work From Home Jobs
